Cyber security is the application of technologies, processes and controls to protect systems, networks, programs, devices and data from cyber-attacks. It aims to reduce the risk of cyber-attacks and protect against the unauthorized and unwanted exploitation of systems, networks and technologies.
In case of industrial cyber security, the main focus is on the Safety of the personnel, Production process, Asset Protection and Environment etc.
Most of the OT/ ICS systems were not built with cybersecurity as part of their design criteria, and often include discontinued/obsolete devices that cannot be secured.
OT systems, complicated by challenging operational requirements and proprietary computer communications protocols, are outside of the expertise of traditional IT cybersecurity staff. Often the cybersecurity of these important networks is pushed on the operations personnel. This introduces a significant risk to organizations. Operations personnel may not have sufficient training or experience in cybersecurity to truly understand their own competence levels.
It is not known which cyber threats will hit our control system. But what we know is that Cybersecurity best practices can safeguard the ICS from such unknown threats and its associated uncertainties. Cybersecurity professionals understand that 100% protection against cyber threat is not possible, but best practices can prevent or minimize the attack.
Adopting best practices will enhance the maturity level of ICS cybersecurity systems and also help to achieve compliance to international cybersecurity standards in a simple and cost-effective way since these best practices are already proven.
It is better to learn from others' experience which is nothing but best practices.
In this webinar, you will know about the following 7 best practices:
1. Policy, Procedure and Practices
2. Asset Inventory and Tracking
3. Hardening, and Strengthening
4. Manage and Monitor
5. Backup and Recovery
6. Training and Awareness
7. Auditing
